EXCLAIM
(September, 2000) - "Montreal's Revival is an electronic outfit
intent on creating exotic new age minimalism. The merger of distinctive
melodies and subtle world-beats recalls the atmospheric trance experiments
of Future Sound of London, in early works like Papua New Guinea. Spoken word
interludes and samples add to the impression of a sonic movie soundtrack for
the ears. While this may not be cutting edge stuff, within its limits it is
a beautifully shaped and sequenced electronic suite that provides a highly
entertaining and satisfying listening experience." (David Lewis)

NEW AGE VOICE
(October 2000) - Revival, which is really someone named Sorin
Pavelesco, uses spoken word to develop the theme of dreams and make
suggestions to the listener about dream interpretation and incubation. He
presents the listener with surrealistic images that resurface a number of
times throughout the recording, inviting the imagination to cut loose and
wander down any of the streams of consciousness suggested. The music uses
keyboards and percussion with a structure that is similar to some of the
dark ambient recordings of Robert Rich. Male and female voices seem to work
their way out of a murky background, half remembered, half heard, just like
our own dream recalls. The textures are dense, requiring close listening to
get the most out of this recording, compared to others which may be enjoyed
almost casually. (Dan Liss)
